William "Bill" R. Downey, 78, of Roxborough, passed away on May 4, 2020 at Abington Hospital due to COVID-19.
Bill is survived by his daughter Terry Downey-Frieman (Russell), grandchildren Ryan Downey & Evan Freiman and his ex-wife, Mary "Dolly" Downey and his partner of many years, Mary Frances Knecht. Bill was one of seven children; his surviving siblings are Ellen (Swider), Joseph, Barbara (Moul) and Deborah. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his son, William "Billy" R. Downey, Jr., his sisters, Rennie (Dennison) and Patricia (McGarvey), his parents, Alice and William and Alice's loving husband of over 30 years, "Uncle" Joseph Downey.
Bill was a friendly and lively person who worked extremely hard at building two businesses. After graduating from Roman Catholic High School, he went on to own a gas station and start his own towing business, Roxborough Towing. Bill had a passion for running his businesses, racing cars, country music and classic cars. He also loved his visits to the Pocono Mountains.
Friends and family are invited to a Visitation at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30 at Koller Funeral Home, 6835 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment is in Calvary Cemetery.
