MaryAnn Pastore, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 8, 2024, 10 days prior to her 86th birthday. Jesus called MaryAnn to Heaven on the Feast Day of our Blessed Mother Mary whose mother is St. Ann. How appropriate!
She grew up in the Swampoodle neighborhood of North Philadelphia, on N. 25th Street, a place she fondly recalled throughout her life. Daughter of James Baird and Anna Thais beloved sister of Jimmy Baird and loving niece of Elizabeth Thais, who helped raise her after her mother died when she was three. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Anthony of 46 years and her dear son, Tony Jr., who was her world.
MaryAnn was the cherished mother of MaryAnn (her Favorite son-in-law Gary Orvieto,) the late Tony Jr., and Margaret Logan (affectionately known as "Twiggy"). She was a woman who gave everything to her family, working tirelessly to provide for and nurture them through every challenge. Her unwavering dedication and love were the cornerstone of her life.
MaryAnn's career was marked by her diligence and professionalism as the hardworking secretary for Martin Weinberg at Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell & Hippel, one of the largest law firms in Philadelphia. She was deeply respected by her colleagues for her commitment and dedication to the firm. In addition, she was passionate about supporting the political landscape of Philadelphia, proudly working for the Frank Rizzo mayoral campaign, a testament to her love for her city and community.
Even after long days of work, MaryAnn would take the bus to Center City, return home, and make dinner for her family. She took exceptional care of her son Tony Jr., who faced challenges, always ensuring he was loved and supported. Her selflessness knew no bounds-she consistently put her family's needs above her own, giving her all to create a warm and loving home.
One of MaryAnn's most touching qualities was her kindness to everyone she met. She was known for befriending people in need, including Randy, a homeless man. Her compassion for others, especially those less fortunate, exemplified her generous spirit.
In addition to her many talents, MaryAnn had a sharp wit and a unique way of thinking that often brought laughter and joy to those around her. She was an excellent writer, frequently penning little stories and keeping a detailed journal of her experiences. Her creativity extended to drawing, a hobby she loved and nurtured throughout her life.
Above all, MaryAnn cherished her family. Known to her grandchildren as Gram Sissy, the old lady on 2. She was a devoted grandmother to her seven grandchildren: Ashley, Missy Lucia (Nick), DJ, Alexis, Brielle Maree, Cabrina, Alivia, her great-granddaughter, Kaylyn, and a soon to be great grandson. She adored spending time with all of them, writing about their lives, and always making sure they knew how deeply she loved them.
Also survived by her grand puppies Marlie (her favorite), Toula, Harlie, and Daisy Doo Dah. Also, her grand kitties Misty (her favorite), Gussie, Nala, and the southern devil Honey.
One of the favorite things Maryann love to do was to give Marlie belly rubs every day and pet her cat, Misty, who was glued to her side.
MaryAnn was a woman of faith who praised God in everything she did. Her love for her church and her trust in God were constants throughout her life and she always gave Him the glory for her blessings. She was a pleasant, sweet soul who never complained and always spoke words of love and praise for her family. Her famous quote, "Why is God so good to me? Just because he is!"
MaryAnn's life was a reflection of the grace, love, and strength she so freely gave to everyone around her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sept 14th at 10am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Andorra. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in MaryAnn's honor to St. John's Hospice in Philadelphia.
Rest in peace, MaryAnn. Your kindness, warmth, and faith will forever remain in our hearts.
