Leon W Wood IV
11/12/1966 - 8/20/2022
Leon Wood passed away on August 20, in his home in Germantown.
He grew up in the Terry Manor neighborhood of Newark, DE with his siblings, cousins and close friends. After graduating from Christiana High School in 1985, Leon served first in the US Army, and later transferred to the US Air Force where he served in base security around the world. He attended the University of Delaware.
Leon enjoyed cooking for those he loved, reading, especially about Black American (he preferred to be called Black rather than African American) history and social issues, and he never missed an opportunity to vote. He was working as a sawman in a steel mill in New Castle, DE when he first became ill in 2001.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faith (Ewasko) and a daughter, Leneve, his parents and many relatives, including his adored grandmother, Vera Mae (McLaughlin) Wood, who gave him his nickname "Babycakes."
Leon was most proud of his children, Noah and Jonah, who miss him greatly.
Friends may call for an informal rememberance at Koller Funeral Home on Saturday, September 17 from 11:30 - 12:45pm.
The family would like to thank the innumerable family, friends and Leverington church family who supported Leon and all of us in the long years of his illness. May he be at peace.
