Joseph Kerns, age 78 of Roxborough, passed away on Friday, August 20th, at Chestnut Hill Hospital from Interstitial Lung Disease after a brave fight. Joseph grew up in the East Falls section of Philadelphia where he was surrounded by many family and friends. Joseph is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean (nee O'Leary) and children Gina, Annemarie, Nancy and Joseph Jr. Loving Grandfather to Brianna Elenback. Son of the late Margaret (nee McCoy) and Charles Kerns.
Upon graduation from high school, he attended Temple University where he studied Architecture Design and Planning. After his apprenticeship, he ran a successful business for over 40 years, Joseph Kerns and Son Contracting. He retired in 2013 to help take care of his daughter Annemarie whom he dedicated his life to after she suffered a traumatic brain injury due to a brain tumor.
Joseph will always be remembered for his humor, charitability, hardwork, and dedication to his family. He is also remembered for being an active parishioner and volunteer at St. John the Baptist Church, Manayunk. We welcome all friends and family to attend his Viewing on Wednesday, August 25th at 9 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass, 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Manayunk. Interment will follow Mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Glenside, PA.
