John Birkmire Obituary

John "Jack" Birkmire, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, just two days shy of his 84th birthday. Born on February 16, 1942, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, John lived a life rich with love and family, residing in Philadelphia, PA. He will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Jack will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Jo Ann (nee Carney) Birkmire, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children: Jo Ann Phelan (Grant), John Birkmire (Kim), Jeanine Birkmire (Bill), and Brian Birkmire (Kris).Jack was a dedicated grandfather to eight grandchildren: Taylor Holland (Tim), John Birkmire (Payton), Logan Mahan, Alexandra Phelan, Kaitlyn Mahan, Jack Phelan, Colin Birkmire, and Mia Birkmire. He also took great pride in being a great-grandfather to TJ Holland and Lucy Birkmire, all of whom adored him and cherished the time spent together.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Helen Birkmire, and his siblings Richard, Joanne, Marilyn, and Robert.

Jack found joy in family traditions, particularly summer gatherings at the family shore house in West Wildwood, NJ. He loved fishing and crabbing with his grandchildren. Jack enjoyed cooking and was a master fixer; he always had his bag of tools with him. Jack looked forward to watching the Philadelphia Eagles games on tv and listening to the Phillies on the radio.

The family will honor Jack's memory with a public viewing at St. John the Baptist Church in Manayunk on February 20, 2026, from 930 AM, followed by a Mass celebrating his life at 10:30 AM. Interment will be held at Westminster Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Jack's name be made to The Friends of St. John the Baptist and the National Aphasia Association organizations that hold significance to them.
