Hipolita (Garcia) Rivera

Hipolita "Polly" Rivera passed away on October 6, 2023, at the age of 96. She was born on February 18, 1927, in Humacao, Puerto Rico. She was the daughter of Julio Rivera Garcia and Maria Perez Alvarez. She was the 4th of 7 children with 3 brothers (William, Justino and Alfonso) and 3 sisters (Ramonita, Carmen and Aida). She was the sole survivor of the 7 children and a widow. In 1950 she gave birth to her only child, Juan J. Laureda, in New York City. She was the loving aunt to 3 nieces (Julie, Iris and Adairis) and and 4 nephews (Raymond, Julio Cesar, Eddie and Oscar), and 5 grandnieces (Alexis, Nicole, Zilaida, Jucely and Christina) and 4 grandnephews (César Omar, José Enrique, Julián and Paul). She is survived by her son, Juan, and her daughter-in-law, Maritza.

In addition to being a loving and caring mother who dedicated her life to her son, even to the very end of her time here on earth, and gave her unconditional love to everyone in her family, she was devout Catholic who attended mass daily until the pandemic in 2020 when the church she attended was closed temporarily because of the pandemic and because of health reasons she moved in with her son and daughter-in-law who became her full-time caregivers until she passed.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 819 E. Cathedral Road, Phila., PA 19128; Viewing at 10:00 AM; Mass at 11:00 AM.

The burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 W. Cheltenham Ave., Phila., PA 19150.
