It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Hepsey Leanna McCalla, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who left us on November 29, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on April 10, 1946, in Bellas Gate Jamaica, Hepsey lived a life marked by compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to those around her.
Hepsey will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sandra "Christine" Huwie (Winston), her granddaughters Charma-Claire Wilson and Stephanie Huwie (Samuel Fieldhouse), and her great-grandchildren, Zyrael Perry, Neviyah Wilson, Tobiahs Dorsey, Eremiahs Dorsey, Tehdros Wilson, and Azariah Wilson. She is the daughter of the late Herbert McCalla and Christiana McCalla. She is survived by her siblings, Lionel, Josephine, Zoe, Winston, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Preceding her in death are her beloved adopted mother, Shirley Cox, and siblings Ruby, Ishmael, Edna, Sidney, Stanley, Harvey, and Vinford.
Hepsey began her career at The Salvation Army School for the Blind in Kingston, Jamaica. The children quickly grew to love her, seeing her as the house mom who looked after them and supported their every need. Once she moved to the United States she dedicated 42 years of her life as a Patient Care Assistant at Roxborough Memorial Hospital, where she not only made a significant impact in the Operating Room but also formed lifelong friendships that became her extended family. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her profession; she was an avid gardener, known for transforming tiny seeds into beautiful blooms, and her home garden was a testament to her love for nature and her ability to cultivate beauty.
A true handywoman, Hepsey had an incredible knack for fixing anything that came her way-a trait she inherited from her father. Her independent spirit and resilience inspired all who knew her.
In honor of Hepsey's incredible life, funeral services will be held on December 8, 2025, at the Roxborough Salvation Army Church 6730 Ridge Avenue Philadelphia PA 19128. A public viewing will take place from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. We invite all who loved Hepsey to join us in celebrating her life and legacy. Interment in Calvary Cemetery of West Conshohocken.
Hepsey's kindness and strength will forever resonate in our hearts. Though she may be gone, her spirit lives on in all of us who were fortunate enough to have known her.
