Helen Elaine (Naspinsky) Oleksiak, 91, of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2021.
She was born March 19, 1930 in Mahanoy Plane, PA to parents Simon and Julianna (Iwancyk) Naspinsky; the youngest of eight children.
After graduating Gilberton High School, she attended Empire Beauty School and moved to Philadelphia. Helen worked as both a hairdresser and inspector at the Tastycake factory before meeting her future husband, Fred or “Fritz” as she lovingly called him at a dance at Corpus Christi Church. They married there on July 5, 1952 and went on to have two children, Michael (Nina) and Helene Morton (William “Buddy”). Helen later served as a Crossing Guard for the City of Philadelphia for over 20 years and in retirement worked at the family’s nightclubs in Atlantic City.
Mom-Mom’s life revolved around her grandchildren and she drove to Brigantine, NJ every weekend to help cook and care for them. Helen was always the life of the party, her kind smile and bubbly personality could light up any room and she made friends everywhere she went! She had a passion for gambling, and could often be found playing Bingo and slot machines at her favorite casinos. The only thing she loved more was her family, and she will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Helen was predeceased by both parents, her husband, all of her siblings, and grandson, Bryan.
She is survived by both children, her grandsons; Shawn (Erica), Colin (Renee), Dylan, and her great-granddaughter Malia.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary 819 Cathedral Rd. Philadelphia, PA 19128 with visitation at 10am and mass at 11am. Burial to follow at Westminster Cemetery 701 Belmont Ave. Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
