Gary Garretson

On Friday, October 4, 2019, Gary Garretson loving husband, father of two children and “Poppy” to six grandchildren passed away suddenly at the age of 67. Gary was born on July 7, 1952 in Philadelphia to Edgar and Edith Garretson.

He attended Roxborough High School and worked as a machine operator for 25 years at Tastykake.

Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, classic cars, gardening, vacationing and spending time with family. He was in his glory around food , whether he was eating it or cooking it. He enjoyed coffee and conversation, no matter what time of day. His most treasured hobby was babysitting his grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Edgar (Bud) and his mother Edith, his brothers, Edgar (Butch) and Richard Garretson, and father-in-law William McClay.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Donna (McClay)and his daughter, Barbara (Nick) Singer, and son, Gary Garretson Jr. (Quinn McCabe); His Grandchildren, Isla Grace, Scarlett Rose and Gary (Tripp) Garretson III, Brooke Marie, Lydia Jean, and Landon Timothy Singer; His sister Debra Carl (Tom) and  brothers David and Steven Garretson; sisters-in-law June Garretson and Bernie Garretson; and mother-in-law Barbara McClay. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Family and friends are invited to the Viewing Thursday, October 10, 2019,10 AM. Funeral Service to follow at 11 AM at Koller Funeral Home, 6835 Ridge Ave., Philadelphia. Interment is Private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Lastly, think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched… for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.
