It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edward Thomas Hurd III on November 2, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on August 22, 1938, in Camden, New Jersey, Edward was the beloved son of the late Edward Thomas Hurd II and Beatrice Edna Dyer, a devoted husband to Renee Romagnole, and a loving father to Regina Hurd (Peter Michales), Sheila Allison (Richard), and Edward H. Hurd. He was a proud grandfather to Jarrod Allison and Griffin Allison and the cherished brother of David Wayne Hurd (Bette Anne) and is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Edward led a remarkable life defined by brilliance, kindness, and a sense of humor that touched everyone around him. He earned degrees in electrical engineering from Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania, paving the way for an exceptional career. Edward spent the majority of his professional life at Honeywell Corporation, where he ultimately served as President of Honeywell Industrial Automation from 1990 to 1996. During his tenure, he was awarded numerous patents in industrial automation, making lasting contributions to the field.
After retiring in 1996, Edward continued to share his expertise by serving on corporate boards and founding a consulting firm specializing in the acquisition, divestiture, and management of businesses in his field.
For the last 27 years, Edward and his wife Renee enjoyed a beautiful life together, filled with family, friends, and travel. They shared a wonderful city life in Philadelphia and a serene escape in their beachside apartment in Jupiter, Florida.
Beyond his professional achievements, Edward was known for his extraordinary kindness, compassion, and humor. He had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcome and at ease, sharing laughter and wisdom with those around him-even in his final days. His love for his family and friends was the cornerstone of his life, and he will be remembered as one of the kindest, most brilliant men anyone could ever meet. Edward's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, both personally and professionally. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
A memorial service to honor Edward's life will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024 at 12:30pm at Chapel at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery at 1600 S. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA.
