David Daniel Hunter peacefully passed into eternal life on September 21st surrounded by his wife Yvonne, children, and grandchildren.
"Dave" "Pop" and "Daddy" as he was affectionately known, was larger than life and beloved by many. He was born in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia in 1936 and married the love of his life, Yvonne, in 1954, who survives him. Dave and Yvonne recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Dave Hunter was a Philadelphia Police officer in the 1950s and 60s and was featured in the book Sonny, a South Philly Story. After retiring from the police force, he drove a gasoline tanker for Atlantic Richfield.
Dave was active in the community and served on the board of the 21st Ward Committee where he was named "Man of the Year." His efforts resulted in many improvements at athletic fields in Roxborough and Wissahickon.
Dave's daughter Danielle liked to say that he was the "Mayor of Dawson Street" before retiring to Ocean City, NJ where she said he became the "Mayor of Asbury Avenue" for another 19 years.
Dave Hunter's legacy lives on through his six children, nine grandchildren four great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. They include his daughters Donna, (Dennis) Deirdre, Denise, (Michael) Davida, (Thomas) and Danielle and son Darren; grandchildren Doug, Colin, Devin, Courtney, Drew, Derek, Jake, and Dax; and great-grandchildren Iggy, Greta, Charlotte, and Mabes. David was preceded in death by his grandson, Brett Hunter.
He is remembered by all for always calling everyone on their birthdays and singing them Happy Birthday.
Dave had a great sense of humor, and he enjoyed telling stories about his many life adventures.
David Hunter loved his country, and his greatest wish was to see Americans come together for peace and unity.
