Catherine Mondi (a/k/a Kathleen Mondi) 69, died Thursday, March 30, 2023. Born in Plainfield, NJ to the late Bernard and Theodora Mondi, she grew up in Scotch Plains before settling in Philadelphia following college.
Catherine was a graduate of Immaculata College with a bachelor's in psychology and Villanova University with a Master of Science degree. She had dedicated over 40 years to her vocation of social work to improving the lives of the poor, the homeless, the old and the vulnerable children of Philadelphia. Prior to retiring she had spent 23 years as a social worker for the Philadelphia Department of Human Services where she "made a difference."
Her passions were her Philadelphia community, preserving the environment, reading, and thought-provoking conversations.
Catherine is survived by her sisters Joan Mondi and her husband Rocco, Barbara Roselli and her husband Frank, Linda DeGaetano and her husband Joe, her brother Freddy Mondi and his wife Mary, and Scott Mondi and his wife Helen. She is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews whom she adored. Catherine's family also wishes to thank and applaud her Silverwood Street community and friend Joni Kirchner for their incredible friendship and support throughout the years.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation on Tuesday, April 11 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 234 Hermitage Street, Philadelphia. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Internment will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12 at St. Gertrude Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ.
