Annemarie Kerns (46) passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, September 4th at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after a long illness. She should be remembered as an inspiration for all who knew her. She fought for over nine years after the re-occurrence of her brain tumor by living each day to the fullest. When asked "How happy she was?" she would often respond, "98%". She had always been close to God, however her illness only strengthened the bond. She slept with her rosary every night to keep her safe and God close.
Before the tumor she enjoyed traveling with family, friends and her boyfriend. She traveled extensively all through the US, the Caribbean and was a Disney fanatic. Annemarie was known for her sense of humor and willingness to always lend a helping hand to others. During her lifetime she cared for and helped raise her niece Brianna Elenback, who she loved immensely.
Annemarie is survived by her mother, Jean Kerns (O’Leary), sisters Gina and Nancy, a brother, Joseph and a niece Brianna.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Viewing on Friday from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM at the Koller Funeral Home, 6835 Ridge Ave. On Saturday, her Viewing will begin at 9 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 146 Rector Street, Manayunk. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
Annemarie's family is asking that donations in Annemarie's memory be made out to the Friends of St. John the Baptist, http://www.stjohnmanayunk.org. St John's was a big part of the community that supported not only Annemarie but also her family during her illness. Her father, Joseph Kerns, predeceased her by two weeks and both found comfort and solace in the church.
