Civic engagement was important to Bill.

It is with both profound gratitude and sadness that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Alden Zuccarello on August 28, 2026. Bill was born in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey on July 29,1928 into a large and loving family, with parents Joseph Zuccarello and Rosemarie Ferrera Zuccarello, sisters Rose and Jean, and brothers Anthony, Daniel, Joseph Jr, and Robert.

Bill graduated from Trenton High School and went on to attend Rutgers University. While pursuing this education, Bill worked his way through college as a bartender with his father, Joseph. He then earned a PhD in Endocrinology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

After completing his doctorate, Bill worked his entire career in the pharmaceutical industry. He believed deeply in science and in medicines that treated underlying conditions rather than merely masking symptoms, a conviction that guided his professional life.

Bill met the love of his long life, Margot Stein, at SmithKline & French. The couple got to know each other while playing golf with friends after work. By all accounts, Bill had a great long game, but he gladly stayed behind and kept Margot company, telling corny jokes and endearing himself to her along the way.

Their fondest memories of Bill included lively conversations around the dinner table and beloved stories that delighted the listeners.

Bill and Margot would eventually marry and settle in Oreland, Pennsylvania, where they raised their four children: Rose Zuccarello, Patty Zuccarello, Bill (Amy) Zuccarello, and Joe Zuccarello and watched their grandchildren Juliana Zuccarello and Greg Zuccarello grow into amazing young adults.

Civic engagement was important to Bill. He and Margot volunteered for several years at the Sisters of St Joseph Welcome Center in Philadelphia where he taught driving and citizenship test prep to newly arrived neighbors. Bill was an avid sports fan and loved the Phillies regardless of the season they were having. He also canvassed for political causes and served as a lector at Holy Martyrs in Oreland. For much of his adult life, Bill was also a part-time resident of Chester, VT. He enjoyed the people, the mountains, and the Weston Priory.

Bill took pleasure in the little things: vanilla ice cream, Sees candy, and coffee cake from Crust and Crumb on Long Beach Island. But he also loved to travel with Margot, their children, and close friends. Together, they visited Italy and France on several occasions, creating lifelong stories and memories. His family will tell you that their fondest memories of Bill included lively conversations around the dinner table and beloved stories that delighted the listeners even on the hundredth telling.Relatives and friends are invited to greet Bill's family on Wednesday September 9, 2026 beginning at 9 AM at Saint Josephs Villa Chapel in Flourtown. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 AM. Interment is private.
