Susan (Gray)
Phillips
Dec 16, 1948 — May 6, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan "Susie" Phillips, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Susan was born on December 16, 1948, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and departed this world on May 6, 2026.
Susan was the cherished wife of the late William J. Phillips, Sr. and is survived by her caring stepchildren, William J. Jr. (Florence), Marlene Graveley (Cory Vassallo), and the late David J. She was a devoted grandmother to Patrick (Shannon), Stephanie, Victoria Graveley, William J. III, and Maria Phillips, and a proud great-grandmother to Morgan, Brody, Nolan, and Cole Graveley. Susan was the loving daughter of the late Allen and Olga (nee Tursky), and she leaves behind her brother Bill (Ann) Gray and her sister Rosemary (Ross) Minchin. She is also survived by cherished nieces Sara (Brendan) and Louise, nephews Jonathan, Shane, and James (Paige), and great nieces Everly and Piper.
Susan graduated from State College High School in 1968. From there she attended The Pennsylvania State University until her graduation in 1970, where she majored in Elementary Education, and ultimately graduated with her Masters Degree in Education from Villanova University, of which she was very proud.
With a gentle spirit and a heart full of kindness, Susan was a source of support and love for all who knew her. Her dedication extended beyond her family; she devoted 30 years to teaching at McCall Public School in Philadelphia, where she inspired countless young minds and positively impacted the lives of her students. A faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Church, she was deeply involved in her church community, embodying the values of compassion and service. Later in life, Susan and Bill moved to Ocean City where they built a close network of friends in their retirement. Susan loved the beach, often hosting family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be cherished by those who knew her.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at a public viewing that will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, The Philadelphia Oratory, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 9:30 AM. A Mass will follow at 10:30 AM, during which we will honor Susan's legacy and the love she shared with all of us. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In this time of mourning, let us remember Susan not just for her departure, but for the myriad of ways she touched our lives with her generosity, warmth, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
