It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Jones, Sr., who departed this life on July 26, 2026, at the age of 81. Steven was born on April 18, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and remained a beloved member of the Philadelphia community throughout his life.
Steven, affectionately known as "Steve", received his education in the Public School System. He worked for several decades as a truck driver with ARCO and Roadway Express. He was responsible for delivering Goods in Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Delaware counties.
For several decades, Steve was actively involved in the community for the 52nd Ward. He spent countless hours serving the Ward and did run for State Representative in 2016, although not elected he did serve as Ward Leader. He was known as the "go-to" person in his community. He also developed the Philadelphia Alliance Against Drug and Violence. He was a devout member of Saint Barbara's Roman Catholic Church, where he served as a Knight of St. Peter Claver, a Eucharist Minister, as well as an Usher.
He cherished his family above all, serving as a loving father to Steven Jr. (Dana) and Dorian Jones, grandfather to DeAndre Rhett (Tara), Whitney Rhett, and Steven Jones III, and great-grandfather to Kobe and Vanessa Rhett.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, William Fletcher, his mother, Mary Jones and his brothers, Walter, Floyd, Jack, Hubert and Sterling. He leaves behind his siblings: Carl Jones (Jan), Anthony Jones (Andrea), and Michael Jones, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will always hold cherished memories of him.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet Steve's family on August 5, 2026 at Saint Barbara Roman Catholic Church beginning at 10:30 AM. A Mass will follow at 11 AM. Interment is private. Family and friends are invited to gather and pay their respects.
In this time of sorrow, we invite you to mourn with us and honor the legacy of a man who was devoted to his family and community and worked tirelessly to support them. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
