Richard J.
Kerwood
Dec 23, 1950 — Feb 2, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce that Richard John Kerwood, of Philadelphia, unexpectedly passed away at home on February 2, 2022 of a heart condition. He leaves behind his beloved wife Wendy (née Moy) of 42 years. Richard was the devoted father of two daughters: Adrienne Fernandez (Jason) of Silver Spring, MD and Kristen Osborne (Brian) of Havertown, PA. He was also the loving and proud grandfather of four granddaughters: Cora, Kathryn, Teresa and Gwendolyn Osborne. Richard was the oldest child of the late John A. and Kathryn Kerwood (née Bennett). He is survived by five brothers and sisters: Kathryn Rippert, John Kerwood, Sue Anne Viola, Thomas Kerwood (Nancy) and Patricia White (David). He also leaves behind his dear sisters-in-law: Nancy Moy, Donna Rowley (Malcolm), and Debra Truong (Linus), and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Marianne Kerwood. Richard (Rich or Rick) lived in the Roxborough area his entire adult life. He was a USPS letter carrier for over three decades, and happily came to know so many of our community members along his routes. Before joining the Post Office, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served our country as part of the Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam War. Richard would light up talking about cars, military history, the Eagles, his granddaughters and... the way Kristen was so brave, the way Adrienne was so determined, and all the ways Wendy could make him laugh. He was, as Rich would say of others, good people. Viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday at 10 AM and a Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM, both at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 819 Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, Pa 19128. Interment will follow at Westminster Cemetery, 701 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richard's name to the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, 3900 Woodland Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19104. The family kindly requests that masks be worn for the viewing and the Mass. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Koller Funeral Home, Philadelphia.
