Raymond
Becker
Feb 28, 1930 — Dec 14, 2020
Raymond E. "Buzz" Becker, age 90, on December 14, 2020. Raymond was a lifelong resident of the Roxborough / Manayunk area. Raymond was the husband of Joan M. Becker and the father of Jude Becker (Anna Marie), Christopher Becker, Rosemary Hopkins (John) and the stepfather of Joanne Donahue (Daniel), Donald Friel (Margaret), Mary Beth Snyder (Louis) and Christopher Friel (Mary). Raymond also is survived by his 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his sisters Ellie Fahringer and Ann Fahringer, brothers George Becker and Robert Becker. He was preceded in death by his sisters Catherine Moyer and Mary Patro and brother Vincent Becker. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Geraldine Becker (Pietrzykowski). Known as "Buzz" to his family and friends, Raymond spent his entire career in the accounting field, finishing his career with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue as an auditor. In his younger days he was an avid golfer and could easily shoot in the low 70s as a "scratch" golfer. He enjoyed very early morning rounds with his circle of friends and was proud to finish in less than 3 hours. He was the ultimate quick golfer, totally intolerant of "slow play". Raymond was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the years 1951 to 1955 and in the Air Force reserves from 1955 to 1959. As a parishioner of St. Josaphat and Holy Family parishes in Manayunk, Raymond was very active in all parish activities, including the Men's club, boys basketball and the Holy Family Finance Committee. Raymond enjoyed his large family and was proud to see his grandchildren grow into adulthood and begin the next generation of great grandchildren. He enjoyed the large family gatherings and weddings that took place frequently. In retirement he enjoyed helping his friends and family and was always available to provide financial and tax advice. He also was proud of his large DVD collection, which included all the Hollywood classics. Relatives and friends are invited to Call at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 19 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 819 E. Cathedral Rd., Philadelphia. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Raymond's name to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 521 Moredon Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA, 19006.
