Maureen
Magarity
Mar 23, 1949 — Apr 20, 2025
With sadness and love, we announce that Maureen Magarity, 76, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on April 20, 2025, in Philadelphia, PA. Born on March 23, 1949, in Germantown, PA, to William and Kathleen Magarity, Maureen was a devoted daughter and sister. She will be remembered for her love and selfless dedication to her family, as well as to the neighborhoods and communities that raised her. She was a proud daughter of the city of Philadelphia. After marrying, Maureen raised her three sons in California, where she ran the kitchen in several restaurants and cafés, before returning permanently to Philadelphia, working alongside her father and siblings in the Magarity family businesses. Her love language was through food and feeding her friends and family. As famous for running a tight ship in the kitchen as she was for her culinary delights, Maureen was always focused on gathering her favorite people together at the table to celebrate life through delicious food and extravagant desserts, through laughter and love. Maureen loved her summers at the Jersey Shore with family. It was a time when all of her beloved grandchildren were together with her and a time she treasured beyond measure. The tradition of returning to the shore with her kids and grandkids, brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews, year after year, to celebrate life, sharing in all of its ups and downs, was the pinnacle of her year. For the past 15 years, Maureen has devoted her time to Germantown's St. Vincent de Paul Face to Face dining program, combating food insecurity and poverty, and was passionate about this mission and protecting the dignity of their clients. She was so proud to be a part of Face to Face. It had her heart. And it is this kind of humble service that marked Maureen's life. A loving and remarkable woman until the end, she will be greatly missed. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, William and Kathleen Magarity; her brother, Bill Magarity; and her stepmother, Nancy. Maureen is survived by her loving children: Timothy (Danielle), Eoin (Ann Marie), and Aidan; by her beloved grandchildren: Liam, Josephine, Morgan, Finn, and Charlie; by her siblings: Greg Magarity, Joe Magarity, Mark Magarity, Mike Magarity, Jake Magarity, Lizanne Pando; the Salmon sisters: Reen, Joan, Nan, and Patty; and many treasured in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Please join us in gathering to celebrate Maureen's beautiful life on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Face to Face, 123 East Price Street, Philadelphia, PA 19144. Visitation is at 11 am; service at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to Face to Face in Maureen's name ( https://facetofacegermantown.org/). And bake your family a cake...and hum an adorable little maddeningly unrecognizable tune while you do it.
