Before she started her family Mary Louise's career was as a 4th grade teacher at Holy Souls Catholic School. She maintained relationships with some of her beloved students for over 65 years. She was a dedicated home maker and mother who proudly guided her six children through the Philadelphia public school system and onward to St Joseph's Preparatory School and Mount Saint Joseph Academy. She spent many hours volunteering including the March of Dimes, Holy Family and St. John the Baptist where she taught CCD, Levering, Shawmont, the Mother's Club at St. Joseph's Prep, Saint Joseph's Villa and the Veteran's Hospital. Mary Louise will be remembered by family as woman ahead of her times in caring for the environment as an advocate for recycle and reuse. Since childhood Mary Louise has a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She attended Novena at the Miraculous Medal Shrine and always carried her prayer book and rosary in her purse. At times in her life, Mary Louise suffered from dark periods caused by a battle with mental illness. Her children and grandchildren have accepted and embraced these periods as lessons in love from Mary Louise challenging and expanding the breadth of their compassion, empathy and understanding, not only for her, but for everyone they encounter in life. Mary Louise leaves a legacy full of lessons of courage, independence, strength and resilience that will continue eternally through her family.
