Lawrence J. Kern Sr, 68, passed away suddenly on Sunday April 11, 2021 at home with his children by his side. The beloved husband of the late Margaret C. Kern (nee Hinkle). He was a loving husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle, and Pop Pop to his twelve grandchildren.
Larry was a devoted father to his five children, Larry Jr. (Chrissy), Missy (Bob), Janice (Dave), Trina (Jimmy), and Andrew. Loving Pop-Pop of Nathan, Natalie, Ryne, Evan, Seth, Grace, Hope, Faith, John, Aaron, Brett, & Danielle. Brother of Fred Kern, Joan Loftus, Dennis Kern, Donna MacDonald, Nancy Mealey, Karen Winter, Michael Kern, Kathleen Leposki. He is also survived by his mother in law Catherine (Cass) Schwark. Preceded in death by His Parents, Frederick & Matilda Kern, sisters Pat Vogel, Maureen Kern, and brothers, Henry, Gregory, & Paul Kern. He will be sadly missed by many brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Larry was born and raised in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. He married the love of his life Marge and they were married for 34 years, up until her death in 2004. Larry was a retired Philadelphia Police officer for which he served for twenty years, until his retirement from the 19th district, and was a member of the FOP. He was an extremely hard worker and devoted his time to his kids and grandkids. He was always there to lend an ear or help others in any way he could. He was well known around the neighborhood and worked for 30 years as a bartender at the Fountain Street Pub where Marge would always be by his side working right along with him. They took many trips together that included Spring Training for the Phillies, Superbowl weekends, Irish weekends, and family trips up the mountains and down the shore with their many family and friends. Everyone knew Larry was a strong and caring man and we will truly miss him.
