Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Josephine T. O'Pella, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, who left us on April 29, 2026, at the age of 98.

A dedicated office administrator, Josephine took great pride in her career at Hallahan High, where she formed meaningful connections with the girls she mentored. Her love for her family was even greater, a devotion illustrated through the joyful moments she shared with her son, Joseph (Mary), and her pride in her grandchildren, Jaclyn (John), Joseph (Kelly), and Justin (Natalie). As a great-grandmother to six, she radiated warmth and joy, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

Josephine is survived by her dear sister, Dorothy Kozak, along with numerous nieces and nephews who adored her vibrant spirit. She was predeceased by her parents, Victor and Agnes Zajac, and siblings: Stella Carr, Edward Zajac, Genevieve Shaw, and Vicki Zajac.

Throughout her life, Josephine found delight in the simple pleasures-whether it was losing herself in a good book or baking sweet treats that filled her home with love. Her sweet disposition and genuine kindness touched the lives of many, and she will be remembered for the warmth she brought into the world.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Saint Joseph Villa for the compassionate care they provided Josephine during her final years.

Funeral services for Josephine will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. A public viewing will be held at St. Josaphat Church from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment in Westminster Cemetery.

All are welcome to join us in celebrating the beautiful life of this remarkable woman who will be dearly missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
