Obituary

John "Jack" Mullen, October 17, 2018, age 81.  Survived by his wife, Susanna, he is the father of Mary Brandt (Eric), John "Jack" Mullen (Catherine), Cecilia Quarino (Michael) and Jennifer Collins (the late David, a Navy SEAL). Grandfather of Sara and Benjamin Brandt; William Walker (Dawn); John, Dennis & Joseph Mullen; Megan, Molly and Michael Quarino; Grace and Samuel Collins and the late Zachary Brandt. Great-Grandfather of Wesley Walker. Brother of William Mullen (Barbara) and Joseph Mullen (Barbara).

Jack was a rare soul, filled with love, patience, generosity, kindness and sheer joy for life. His greatest gift to his children was his great love for their mother, Susanna. Their relationship was the bedrock for a safe and happy childhood and modeled what every friendship and marriage should be based upon – trust, love, kindness and fun. Family was everything to him. While he and Sue had four children, Jack was a father-figure to so many more. His welcoming nature and acceptance created such strong bonds that many friends, indeed, became family. In remembering him, many of his more than 50 nieces and nephews noted he was their favorite uncle because of how he made everyone feel special.  Jack loved meeting new people and that extended to his membership in the Knights of Columbus and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, as well as his service to his church parishes over the years. He loved model trains and had an enviable collection of Texaco and Hess trucks. He was a voracious reader of news and current events and could always be counted on to understand and explain the issues of the day. He loved the Philadelphia Eagles and Irish music, at times combining the two during a winning season. But what Jack loved most was having a good time, surrounded by his family and friends. Some people have said that this world will be a darker place without him in it. His family believes, though, that if we all follow his example this world will be a greater place because of the lessons he gave us on what truly matters.
