Obituary

John D. Kay passed away on July 11, 2025 at the age of 84. He was the husband of Lorraine "Rainie" (nee Bottinger) Kay. Father of Donna, Jack (Julia), and Eric (Dee). Grandfather of Brandon and Jaxson. He is predeceased by his parents, Norman and Margaret (nee Pope) and his siblings Joseph (Betty), Norman (Joan), and Mary (Frank). He is also survived by nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was a Philadelphia Police Officer for 30 years, most of that in the 14th district in Germantown. When he retired, he took a part time job, that turned into a second career at what is now the Wells Fargo Center, where he ended up working another 28 years. His work family at The Center, was just as important to him as his own family was. Sports was a big part of his life. Playing, coaching, and umpiring for over 70 years in Roxborough and Manayunk. Player at Kendrick, coaching most of the kids in the neighborhood umpiring in every league around, didn't matter what or where it was.

He was one of the first Athletic Director of the Tigers A.C. In Manayunk, his favorite thing was the yearly block party on Mansion St. where his house became the center hub for the week before and after the weekend event.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Friday evening from 6-8 PM at Koller Funeral Home, 6835 Ridge Ave. On Saturday his Viewing will be at Koller Funeral Home beginning at 10 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM. Interment in Westminster Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers we would ask for donations be made in his name to the Hero Scholarship Fund, for children of fallen Police officers and Firefighters at Hero Scholarship Fund of Philadelphia P.O. Box 282, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
