John J. Harkins III, Retired Philadelphia Police Sergeant, age 61, died September 10, 2014; husband of Amelia L. (nee Mays); father of John J. Harkins IV (Michele), and the late Andrew W. Harkins; Grandfather of Kyle Fuhrmeister and Cecilia Rose Harkins; brother of Linda Harkins.  Relatives and friends are invited to the Koller Funeral Home for the Viewings on Tuesday Eve. September 16th, 7 to 9 P.M. and Wednesday morning, September 17th, 10 A.M. to 11 A.M.; and to the Funeral Service on Wednesday, September 17th, 11 A.M. at the Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Harkins memory to St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 6769 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA  19128.

Mr. Harkins was a member of Roxborough Palestine Lodge #135, Corinthians Chapter #13 OES, Temple Meltia Chapter #183, JOPPA Council #46 and St. John's Commandary #4.  He retired from the City of Philadelphia Police Department as a Sergeant in the 19th District.  He also worked in the 5th District and in the Center City Transit Unit.
