Joan
Fosbenner
Mar 31, 1931 — Aug 3, 2018
Joan C. Fosbenner (nee McCarthy), 87, passed away peacefully August 3, 2018. A native of Philadelphia, Joan was predeceased by her husband Albert D. Fosbenner, father John R. McCarthy, mother Katherine McCarthy, and brother Dennis McCarthy.
Joan was a vibrant mother of five children Albert (Patricia Reilly), Michael (Mary Ellen Connell), Daniel (Barbara Bluhm), Kathe (Dan Friel) and Joni (Matt Shumaker) and eight grandchildren (Justin, Ryan, Erin, John, Mikael, Leah, Brian and Hannah ) of whom she was very proud.
Joan and her late husband Al raised their family in Roxborough adjacent to Fairmount Park and Valley Green which they enjoyed. Joan had many talents and was very generous sharing them with others. She loved flowers, art, music, gardening, animals, sewing and cooking. She loved to entertain and would regularly invite extended family to celebrate birthdays and holidays. She always enjoyed hosting her five teenagers and their friends with endless amounts of cheese steak sandwiches, meatballs and homemade pizzas. Joan was very active in the IHM parish community when her children were young. She volunteered at IHM school teaching art classes as well as IHM church cleaning the pews and ironing vestments for the priests for many years. When her children were in high school, she worked as a flower arranger at Robertson's Flower Shop in Chestnut Hill. She loved her job and enjoyed the social network of friends from Robertson's for many years. Joan earned a college degree in Art at Chestnut Hill College. She was a talented painter and she especially loved the Impressionists. After her children were grown, Joan enjoyed traveling to many countries in Europe. But her favorite vacation was always the Jersey Shore. A memorial service will be held at Koller Funeral Home on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:00 am.
