Eleanor's greatest joy was her family.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eleanor Helen (Gert) Leckey, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, on September 20, 2026.

Born on Good Friday, April 15, 1938, at Northeastern Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Ethel H. (Gamble) and William O. Gert. She was a proud graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School in the Hunting Park section of North Philadelphia.

Eleanor met the love of her life, Harry James "Jim" Leckey, through a chance meeting at the Polish Falcons Club in Philadelphia. They soon discovered that they shared the same birthday, one of the many things that connected them throughout their lives. The couple married during a blizzard in January 1965 in the hills of Manayunk and shared a devoted marriage until Jim's passing on October 18, 2001.

Eleanor's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her four children: Laura Babbish (Kris) of Ocean View, NJ; Linda Dextre' (Abelardo) of Clayton, NC; Susanne Killen (Brian) of Sanatoga, PA; and James W. Leckey of Plymouth Meeting, PA. She was the proud grandmother of seven: Jennifer, Kristine, Joshua, Abigail, Abelardo C., Amber, and Joseph.

Family was the center of her world, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.

Eleanor cherished every opportunity to have her grandchildren together under one roof and took great pride in each of their accomplishments. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate a birthday and especially loved Christmas, her favorite holiday, which she enjoyed sharing with her family.

Eleanor was a devoted Phillies fan who enjoyed traveling with Jim and listening to country music, The Eagles, James Taylor, and Barry Manilow. She especially cherished the song "Ol' 55" covered by The Eagles, which reminded her of Jim's beloved 1955 Chevy. She also held a special place in her heart for her beloved grand-pups and cats.

Eleanor will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her generous heart, and the love and traditions she shared with those around her. Family was the center of her world, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Koller Funeral Home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather together to remember and celebrate Eleanor's life. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, PA. Family and friends are welcome to join the family at the cemetery.
