Obituary

Charles Werner, age 86, of Springfield, Virginia passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021. He was born in Roxborough, PA to Charles F. and Hazel (nee Van Fossen) Werner. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Doris (nee Manley).  He is survived by his daughters, Carol Werner, Cheryl (Jose) Rivera, grandchildren Charlie and Kate Rivera, siblings William (Mary Anne) Werner, Tootsie Dziob, Jane (Frank) Cappo, Mary Ann Rothfus, Thomas (Sheila) Werner, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles graduated from Roxborough HS in 1953 and received a BS degree Accounting from Temple University in 1964.  As a young man he joined Demolay and in 1957 he joined the Palestine-Roxborough Lodge 135 where he continued membership until his death.  He served in the Army Reserves from 1957 to 1963, worked at Exide and Standard Pressed Steel in various finance functions and, in 1970 joined Stouffer's Bakery in King of Prussia, PA.  His career at Stouffer's would lead him to move his family to Hudson, Ohio in 1973 and he continued to hold various managerial positions with Stouffer's / Nestle Frozen Foods until his retirement as SVP of Finance in 1998.  His retirement years with wife Doris were spent in Durham, NC and in 2018 he relocated to Springfield, VA to be closer to his daughters.  He was a member of Mt. Sylvan UMC in Durham, NC and most recently attended virtual services at Nichols-Bethel UMC in Severn, MD where his grandchildren provide audio and video support for the live stream services.

Family and friends are invited on Friday, August 13th to Koller Funeral Home, 6835 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia for visitation at 10am, a Masonic Service at 10:45, and a memorial service at 11am, followed by burial at West Laurel Hill cemetery in Bala Cynwyd.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: Masonic Charities, Office of Gift Planning, One Masonic Drive Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
