Carl F.
Hood
May 10, 1939 — Aug 2, 2025
Carl F Hood (1939-2025)
Carl Hood, loving husband and father from Philadelphia, PA passed away at the age of 86 on August 2, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hood (nee Shiel), whom he was married to for over 60 years. Carl was a devoted father to his three daughters and cherished PopPop to his six grandchildren: Bernadette and Jack Hallissey, with their children Matt and Anna, Denise and Steve Lenherr, with Denise's children Donovan Chiarlanza (Mandy) and Vivian Chiarlanza, and Janice Soulas, with her children Jake (Emily) and Cevin.
Carl was born in Philadelphia in 1939 to Raymond and Leonora Hood. He is survived by a brother, Edward (Barb), and preceded in death by his twin, Bob (Nives), and brothers Raymond (Jeanne), and James. He was a beloved brother-in-law, uncle, friend, neighbor, and colleague to so many and will be deeply missed.
Carl attended St. Tommy More Catholic Boys High School and was a proud alumn all his life, attending frequent luncheons with his former classmates. He was the Young Irelands Gaelic Football team's #1 fan (officially!) and was undeniably proud of his 4 years of active service in the US Air Force and following decades as a reservist out of Willow Grove AFB. A long time parishioner of St. Mary's of the Assumption in Manayunk, he attended Mass weekly and volunteered his time to CYO and various church events.
Everyone who knew him remembers him as a warm, fun loving man who was generous with his time and laughter.
The family will gather on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Cathedral Road in Philadelphia, PA 19128 with a Mass to follow at 11:00 AM. Friends and family are warmly welcome to celebrate the life of this wonderful man.
Gifts of flowers are welcome at the church for the funeral mass and will be given to Mary after the service.
