Michael “Mickey” Hansberry passed away peacefully on August 31, 2019 at 10:23pm. He was 78 years old. He is survived by his only child Maureen Hansberry-Eld, grandson Ryan Eld, beloved father-in-law to George Eld, and 30+ year sweetheart, Marilyn Cunningham. Mickey is survived by four sisters, Maureen, Carol, Marian, & Jenny. Also survived by two brothers, John & Anthony. He is also the brother of the late William “Buddy”Hansberry. He has many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mickey was an all-star athlete in his younger years growing up in the Germantown area of Philadelphia. He was an excellent basketball, baseball & football player/fan. He almost signed to play professional baseball, but was unable to due to a hand injury. He married his high school girlfriend Phylis (Roffo) at age 16.
He was a great father and coached his daughter’s softball team for the 21st Ward in the 1980’s. He also spent many years teaching his grandson his athletic skills and never missed a game that his grandson Ryan played. He was very loved and will be missed by all family & friends. The immediate family will be having a private service at Michael’s request.
