James McCaslin III Obituary

James Bruce McCaslin III, 74, passed away suddenly on July 2, 2019.

Jim was born November 12, 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA.  He attended Mount Lebanon High School, then the University of Maryland on a diving scholarship.  After dating for three years, he married his college sweetheart, Channy, in 1966.  They recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary.

Jim is survived by his wife, Channy McCaslin; two daughters, Heather McCaslin and Katie McCaslin De La Rosa (Dexter); three grandchildren, Zachary Michael Kaplan, Caroline Grace De La Rosa, and Madeline Kay De La Rosa.

Upon graduation from the University of Maryland, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force.  During that time, he earned a Master’s Degree in Education.  He continued to serve his county in the Air National Guard and the Reserves for 29 years.  He retired a Lt. Colonel.

He earned his MBA at George Washington University.  Jim enjoyed a long and successful career as a hospital administrator in several hospitals including Maryland General Hospital, Episcopal Hospital and Chestnut Hill Rehabilitation Hospital.  His second career was working for the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services.  He retired from CMS two years ago, but yearned to continue his work in healthcare.  His most recent position was as a consultant for HUD.

Jim was a devoted Christian; a loving husband; a wonderful dad; and an doting Pop-Pop.  He was known as Diamond Jim, Scat Man, Needle, and many other loving nicknames.  He will be dearly missed.

A memorial service open to all will be held at Chelten Church of Hope in Dresher, PA on July 13 at 10:30 am.  Greetings and refreshments will follow the service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Samaritans Purse.
