James Hale Allen, Jr., proud resident of Historic RittenhouseTown in Philadelphia, passed away
peacefully March 28th, 2018 in Greenwich, CT surrounded by his loving family.
Jim grew up in Merion Station, PA, the only son of James Hale Allen and Alice Cleary Allen. Jim
was a United States Marine and earned his BSc in Engineering from Villanova University.
Among his many passions was sailing on the Chesapeake Bay with his beloved wife,
Rosemarie Hess Allen (also deceased). Jim was also a Great Books enthusiast, a meditation
practitioner and an avid watcher of birds from his home by the Monoshone Creek. Jim was a
retired Civil Engineer for The City of Philadelphia and a man of faith. For over 30 years, he was
an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Germantown.
Jim will be forever remembered by his adoring children, Jeff (Teresa), Meg (Raoul), Katie (Alex),
and Betsy (Drew), 8 grandchildren, and 2 of his 4 loving sisters, Dorothea O’Shea and Alice
Beltran, who survive him and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist RC Church on 146 Rector
Street in the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia Thursday June 7. Reception at 10am,
Mass at 11am. Those who desire may make memorial donations in memory of Jim Allen to The
Fairmount Park Conservancy.(myphillypark.org )
