John D. Conti, Jr.

John Dominico Conti, Jr. passed away peacefully on April 22, 2016 at the age of 79. John was the husband of Arlene Conti, father of Frank Conti, grandfather of Ella Sophia Conti and father-in-law of Courtney Lynn Conti. After John graduated from North Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA he studied at Franklin and Marshall, Pennsylvania State University and later enlisted in the Marine Corp. John then became involved in the industry of HVAC sales. In 1969 John founded Continent Supply Company, Inc. which was a wholesale distributor of HVAC parts, controls and equipment.  

Both John and his wife Arlene had a love for music and theater. John assisted and accompanied Arlene as she choreographed and performed at local theater venues throughout PA and NJ such as “Melody Circle” at Dorney Park and “The Surflight Theater” in Beach Haven, NJ. John’s technical ability led him into set design, sound design and lighting for Arlene’s shows. In 1962 John and Arlene purchased a silent movie called the “Towne Playhouse” which was located in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. John and Arlene transformed the 150 seat theater into a nostalgic vintage theatrical venue where they worked together producing shows for over 30 years.

John was also very active with the LaSalle High School music department while his son Frank attended school there. Because of John’s experience in the theater and technical ability, John supported not only his son Frank, but the music department at LaSalle on many innovative levels.

In 1974 John and Arlene purchased a summer home on Long Beach Island in Beach Haven, NJ. John used to ride his bike on the island and often passed a local marina. John became friends with the owner and found a love for boating. John and his son Frank spent countless summers on the water for years to come after purchasing their first boat. John retired from Continent Supply in 2007. John and Arlene were married for 55 years. 

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral mass at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 29th, at Sacred Heart Chapel at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 819 Cathedral Road. (Next to rectory, off parking lot). In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory should be sent to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, PO Box 781352, Philadelphia, PA 19178-1352.
